A Recipe for Connection

by: Springdale Advocate Coordinator

I come from a family who loves to cook. I cook not only to feed my family, but quite frequently use my skill to minister to others. One of the first things I learned as a family care advocate was that the mom I was paired with didn’t know how to cook. So, we set out to change this.

The first recipe we worked through together was quiche. While this might sound like a strange choice for a new cook, quiche is simple, inexpensive, tasty, nutritious, and can easily be modified in a variety of ways. My recipe also includes a simple pie crust that is made in the pan, using ingredients regularly found in a pantry. Cooking quiche has now become a regular part of this mom’s meal planning.

Recently, in fact, she wanted to help a family dealing with a medical issue. She prepared a quiche for this family, and gave it to them. Now she is using her cooking skills to minister to others.
