God is Doing a New Thing

by: a Jonesboro Family Care mother

“But the Lord says,
‘Forget the things that happened in the past.
Do not keep on thinking about them.
I am about to do something new.
It is beginning to happen even now.
Don’t you see it coming?
I am going to make a way for you to go through the desert.
I will make streams of water in the dry and empty land.’”

Isaiah 43:18-19

I love these verses. My old life is in the past. I can learn from it but it doesn’t have to define me anymore. God is doing new things in my life and in my family. I’m learning how to parent, how to budget, how to build healthy relationships. Sure, I’m making mistakes, but I’m growing and it is because of God. I know that my relationship with Him and my quiet time with Him are so important. I’m learning to trust that God will provide me with what I need. I also have to trust that God will provide my girls with what they need.

One thing new that we are doing is starting each day with loving, kind words. When I tell my girls I love them and that they are beautiful, smart, and kind, I’m connecting with them and showing them their value and worth. That is how I want them to talk to themselves. I know that has to make a difference. The other day my daughter smiled and said, “Mama, I love it when you say those nice things to me.” I smiled back. God is doing a new thing and it’s happening now!
